Two Metro Atlanta tornado touchdowns confirmed, watches and warnings issued – WTVM
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The National Weather Service confirmed three tornado touchdowns in Metro Atlanta Monday afternoon, and is investigating the reports of two more.
The three confirmed touchdowns were in Powder Springs, Ball Ground and Douglas County. The two unconfirmed reports are in Woodstock and Kennesaw.
A Tornado Warning Remains In Effect Until 6:00 p.m. for Northwestern Dawson, Cherokee And Pickens Counties.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes in and around the watch area.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 11:00 p.m. for the following locations:Baldwin, Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Carroll, Chattooga, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Douglas, Floyd, Forsyth, Gordon, Fulton, Polk, Spalding, Troup, Union, White, Habersham, Fayette, Clarke, Cherokee, Lumpkin, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Henry.
According to Cherokee emergency crews, one person was injured from the storm.
Georgia Power reported approximately 5.700 customers in metro Atlanta were without power Monday afternoon. About 5,300 of those were in the Holly Springs – Canton area, and the remaining outages were in Sandy Springs and Roswell.

A flash flood watch is in effect for all of north Georgia, including metro Atlanta, until noon on Tuesday. Three to six inches of rain is expected to fall in the area during that time.
A flash flood watch means conditions are favorable for flash flooding to occur in and around the watch area. Pay special attention to the forecast if you live in a flood-prone area or close to rivers or streams.
“The heaviest rain will move in this afternoon and last overnight as Tropical Depression Lee moves closer,” CBS Meteorologist Justin Lock said. “Also, with tropical systems there is almost always a tornado threat. Several small and weak tornadoes could form this afternoon and into the evening hours. People need to be aware of the threat. They are still dangerous.”
