Service dog in jury box for Va animal cruelty case – Stamford Advocate
DALE CITY, Va. (AP) — A Dale City woman pleaded guilty to 40 counts of animal cruelty as her trial got under way with a service dog sitting in the jury box.
Prince William Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert says the jury chosen for 53-year-old Janet Lynne Hollins‘ second trial included a woman with a service dog. He tells the News and Messenger that Hollins suddenly pleaded guilty Monday as testimony began in Prince William Circuit Court.
Police seized 27 dogs and 50 cats from Hollins’ townhouse last August. She was convicted last October on a lesser charge of inadequate care of animals. Hollins appealed that conviction and won a new trial.
Ebert says Hollins received probation for her guilty plea and agreed to leave the county.
