Remnants of Lee Expected to Soak Georgia – MyFox Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. – 5:25 P.M. UPDATE: Georgia residents were experiencing a soggy Labor Day as remnants of Tropical Storm Lee moved in the state. Tornado warnings were issued for several counties in the area, while a tornado watch was in effect for the entire FOX 5 viewing area.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the following counties until 5:30 p.m.: Cobb; Douglas; Fulton;Clarke; Oconee; Oglethorpe

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the following counties until 10 p.m. on Monday night: Baldwin; Banks; Barrow; Bartow; Bibb; Bleckley; Butts; ; Chattahoochee; Chattooga; Cherokee; Clarke; Clayton; Cobb; Columbia; Crawford; Crisp; Dawson; DeKalb; Dooly;  Elbert; Fayette; Floyd; Forsyth; Franklin; Fulton; Glascock; Gordon; Greene; Gwinnett; Habersham; Hall; Hancock; Haralson; Harris; Hart; Heard; Henry; Houston; Jackson; Jasper; Jones; Lamar; Lincoln; Lumpkin; Macon; Madison; Marion; McDuffie; Meriwether; Monroe; Morgan; Muscogee; Newton; Oconee; Oglethorpe; Paulding; Peach; Pickens; Pike; Polk; Pulaski; Putnam; Rabun; Rockdale; Schley; Spalding; Stephens; Stewart; Sumter; Talbot; Taliaferro; Taylor; Towns; Troup; Twiggs; Union; Upson; Walton; Warren; Washington; Webster; White; Wilkes; Wilkinson

A flash flood watch is also in effect for the entire FOX 5 viewing area through Tuesday morning. FOX 5 meteorologist Jeff Hill says the system could dump between 4-7 inches of rain on parts of north Georgia, with the rest of the metro Atlanta area receiving somewhere between 3-5 inches of rain. Minor flooding is possible in some areas.

The system is also bringing cooler temperatures to Georgia. In fact, Hill says highs won’t reach the 80s again until later in the week.

The remnants of Lee disrupted holiday plans for many people across the southeast. Sunday night’s NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was postponed until Tuesday morning at 11 am because of the rain. It also caused severe flooding for some in the gulf coast states, dropping more than 12 inches of rain in New Orleans.
