Phillies lose NLDS series, season ends – WFMZ Allentown
Phillies battling for NLDS series win
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
The Fightin’ Phils were in a real fight Friday night.
They were battling to get to the National League championship series but fell short in a 1-0 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Before the game optimism was very high.
Fans say even though they wished the series didn’t go five games this is just what the doctor ordered.
It didn’t matter if fans were riding their bikes or showing off their signs for the game.
Fans are betting on a Phillies win.
“We have the best team in baseball right now and I think we are going to come out tonight, we’re going to want it and we’re going to win,” said Phillies fan Laura Wagoner.
The enemy came into our territory wearing the Cardinal colors and all.
“They had to wear the colors when they were at our place too right. Now they are trying to claim our squirrel. The squirrel’s ours,” said St. Louis resident Jerry Dillion joking about the now-famous rally squirrel.
Fans say they’ve done everything to get rid of any jinx that may have plagued the Phillies in the last two games.
“We caught the squirrel, said Phillies fan Anthony Santiagio. “So we ain’t got no jinx down this way and Halladay has just got to wake up today that’s all.”
The home crowd believes they will make the difference even if it means losing their voice.
“I’ll get loud so I will probably have a sore throat,” said Pat Phipps.
“We’ve got to give them all the support in the world,” said Tom Rickenbach. They’ve got to be loud. That works.”
After Game 2 Jimmy Rollins tweeted out that he wanted the fans a little louder. So far, it sounds like the fans have delivered.
