Ndamukong Suh voted third-meanest player in the NFL by his peers – MLive.com
ALLEN PARK — Sports Illustrated polled 287 NFL players on the meanest player in the league and Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh came in third, well behind a pair of linebackers, Pittsburgh’s James Harrison and Baltimore’s Ray Lewis.
Harrison, the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year, is one of the most-feared hitters in the NFL. He has racked up well north of $100,000 in fines for his violent hits on quarterbacks and wide receivers willing to venture across the middle of the field. He finished with 35 percent of the vote.
Lewis, a 16th veteran who has spent his entire career with the Ravens, has long been punishing opposing players with violent hits. Lewis garnered 10 percent of votes.
Suh, the new kid on the block, has quickly earned a reputation as one of the game’s most aggressive players. He has also seen his fair share of fines for tossing opposing quarterbacks around like rag dolls (You may remember this hit on Andy Dalton in the preseason).
Suh’s style of play has had many in the national media questioning whether he is a dirty player, but only five percent of players polled were willing to label him the meanest player in the league.
Detroit Lions backup running back Jerome Harrison also appeared on the league’s meanest players list, finishing at No. 13. I don’t know Jerome that well, but I can’t help but think these votes were meant for James Harrison.
In a funny note, according to Yahoo, one player named Jason Hanson as the meanest in the league.
For those interested, Steelers safety Troy Polamulu was voted the nicest player in the league. Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was 12th on the list.
