(Media-Newswire.com) – The first round of 2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament Scores and Bracket Results are coming in after the sixteen games played yesterday around the U.S.A. The 2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament scores had most teams that were top seeds advancing to the second round with a couple of notable exceptions on the opening day.
Temple squeaked by the number ten seed Penn State squad with a 66-64 victory over the Nittany Lions from the McKale Center in Tucson. Juan Fernandez was able to sink a 20 foot shot which put the Temple team into the next round of action in the NCAA tourney. Temple had a two point lead going into the half and was able to win by that margin. Fernandez had 23 points on the night including the game winner.
Vanderbilt lost a tough game to Richmond 69-66 as the number five seed team was eliminated from this year’s event. Kevin Anderson put the nail in their dreams of making it to the next round with his 25 points on the night including the game winner with barely 20 seconds left in the game. Richmond outscored the Vanderbilt team by six points in the second half on their way to victory.
Number four seed Kentucky survived a scare winning their second round match against Princeton by just two points 59-57. Brandon Knight made the final layup shot with just over two seconds left in the game after having a horrendous shooting performance which saw him get benched.
Pittsburgh took the win over UNC-Asheville 74-51, BYU defeated Wofford 74-66 and UConn continued their domination with an 81-52 crushing of Bucknell.
