COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A metro area woman, raped by an assailant who found her through an internet website spoke out Wednesday night. Police say suspect Darrell Delane Cash targeted that woman and other victims through Craigslist and Backpage.com.
The victim, who asked to go by the name Theresa, said she believes the suspect charged with assaulting her, preyed on other women. Theresa said she believes other victims reported the crime because they are afraid and she is urging them to come forward.
“He was funny, extremely smooth, he said he was from Chicago,” said Theresa.
Theresa said Cash called her after reading her post on the website Backpage.com on February 18.
“Nothing in my head clicked that said this isn’t right,” said Theresa.
Police said he’s the same man who lured Theresa to this vacant Marietta home on long drive that same day and brutally assaulted her.
“He took me in the back room, and told me to give him all my money. I was hoping that would be it,” recalled Theresa.
After robbing her, Theresa said Cash forced her to undress and raped her and then he left, taking her phone.
“As soon as I heard the door close and the dogs bark I ran,” said Theresa.
Theresa said she has lived in fear since the attack.
“It was like watching over my shoulders all of the time. It was like before he was caught being worried he would find me again. With him having my phone he has all my contact information my people my family, so that was my concern more than anything him finding me or my family,” said Theresa.
The 25-year-old suspect was arrested February 22, charged with multiple counts of rape, armed robbery, burglary and kidnapping.
Police say since November of last year, at least three incidents of sexual assault have been reported in and around the Caswyck Trail apartments on Favor Road in Marietta. In each instance they say the suspect lured his victims to unoccupied homes and apartments and sexually assaulted them.
Like Theresa, investigators say Cash contacted his other alleged victims through Craigslist and Backpage.com.
Theresa feels a great sense of relief now that the suspect’s behind bars and is reaching out to other possible victims in the case.
“I would ask any woman that this has happened to, to call someone, to come forward it’s not right, and he deserves to pay,” said Theresa.
Theresa says her story serves as a tragic reminder to those pursuing relationships online to always meet the other person in a public place.
Cobb County police believe there are other victims in this case and are urging them to come forward.
