Best New Artist Tyler the Creator has a WTF moment at VMA’s – SheKnows.com
Yonkers’ Tyler, The Creator picked up some new fans (and maybe lost some fans, but more on that later) when he won the award for Best New Artist at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, beating out Big Sean (My Last), Foster The People (Pumped Up Kicks), Kreayshawn (Gucci Gucci) and Wiz Khalifa (Black and Yellow). Tyler, The Creator is the leader of his hip hop group called OFWGKTA.
Tyler admitted he didn’t prepare an acceptance speech when accepting his award, and we didn’t hear most of it since MTV bleeped it. Check out his speech below – and fill in the blanks as needed.
“Yo, I’m excited as (expletive) right now, yo. I wanted this (expletive) since I was nine. I’m about to cry. This is for my little brother Earl. He’s not here right now. I really can’t believe I’m here right now. I didn’t write a thank you speech. I don’t know. (Expletive!) To all the kids watching, you can do this (expletive). Thank you.”
Translation: He was really, really happy he won!
Other winners of Best New Artist in the past include Nirvana, Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys.
Now, back to the reason that Tyler the Creator might lose some fans. He was also up for Video of the Year Award, as was Bruno Mars for Grenade. Tyler has reportedly been dissing Bruno on his twitter (saying on twitter he wanted to “stab Bruno Mars in his (expletive) esophagus”) and confirmed his feelings during the pre-show interview when they told him Bruno could win. “I might kill myself,” he said.
He then went on to diss all the fellow Video of the Year nominees…except Adele, that is.
“I’m really excited, shout out to Ron Artest. If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele’s,” he said.
It sounds like Tyler has a bit of “Kanye-it is” going on — and in case you were wondering, Katy Perry won Video of the Year Award for Firework.
