In what way does Westboro “baptist” differ from Islamic fundamentalism? The only differences that I see are purely semantic. On the other hand, Westboro baptist has done more to further Gay Rights issues than any other group in the land. By preaching hate as they do, they cause otherwise anti-gay people to react in completely different ways. While there are a great many Americans who don’t see Homosexuality as anything but deviant, the fact is Americans are repulsed by hate groups even more.

The WBC folks used to really get me fired up at their antics. However, now I understand it is all about the money! They want some deep-pocket government entity to suppress their right to free speech for the sole purpose of garnering monetary judgments when they sue – and invariably win! Then I was mad at them for that unsavory practice – never mind all their multi-colored “God wants your soldiers dead” posters and crap like that. I’ve come to a new appreciation and respect for these folks. They have got a money-generating gig that most of us can’t even comprehend because we get lost in their street corner charades. I liked Lauren’s discussion of her father in Louis Theroux’s latest documentary. She shows us a man who is rudderless, and utterly without goals. This is precisely the sort of person who gets sucked into a cult. As I listened to her, I kept thinking of the old adage, “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything”. I commend those who left and especially those who are now speaking the truth about their former family members.

I have hear preachers at The City Union Mission stand and say “If you dont believe what I say you are going to hell you dont have to read he bible just listen” I tell people all the time I dont believe everythig as others do for example the story about the two fishes and the loaf of bread feeding thousands. Did something happen? Yes Was it as recorded NO JUst think this happened and it was close to 70 years beforre it was recorded. God loves everyone no matter what. It is the soul which does not choose God if the person does not repent of sin. God cannot hate because hate is a lack of a good and God is all Good,True and Beautiful. He holds everything into being and if the sinners are still alive they are in His care until they die and choose Him or choose Hell. God does not send sinners to hell. They make their own choice to go there. God has revealed Himself as good through His son Jesus Christ. Before Christ came people knew that a God existed, but they could not know Him until Jesus showed Him to us. Because when you see Christ, you see the Father. Everyone has a choice to know God through the Son, and God does not take away this free will at death. The person has the choice to choose God or choose hell. God loves everyone and wants everyone to be saved. He came for the sinner. If He did not love the sinner, He would not have sent His son to die for them. Your theology and philosophy are way off. You have created a new religion that is not Christian. Christians pray for sinners, not tell them that they are hated.

He “raises his children with ‘bible standards’?” Well, the Catholic Church compiled the scriptures into the Bible and he hates the Catholic Church. That doesn’t make sense. It is good that he has family that are Catholic. Catholics know how to pray for others. I am sure they are praying that he turns from his life of hate. Only God’s grace can help him at this point. His ears are closed to Truth. This is the era of Divine Mercy. God judges those with the amount of Mercy they give others. Westboro is not giving Mercy to others and they should not be judging other people’s souls. Only God can do that because we don’t know what a soul decides (for or against God), as it is dying. Some of the worst sinners can be in Heaven because someone was merciful toward them by praying for them, rather than judging them, and God answered that person’s prayer to save the person from eternal damnation. Everyone must be merciful. God is Mercy. God is love.

Westboro Church is an abomination to Baptists. Real Baptists know they are not the Lord, and that God is the only true judge. While we are taught to pay attention to signs, and submit ourselves to “His” guidence, we are also taught to love others as ourselves and pray for all people, not to be haughty and put ourselves above anyone. True Believers know that Jesus came to help the lost and to “save” us, not destroy us. Jesus knew that only God had the right to judge. God saw from the beginning that humans were an imperfect creation, therefore having mercy,,, and sending Jesus to show love beyond compare that we might “want” to feel the Father’s Love and become more like “Him”. Before Christianty, the Hebrews wrote the Old Testament with the same harshness that Fred Phelps preaches to instill the same fear because their human imperfection let them believe they were truly rightous and close enough to God to do “His” work for “Him”. The same was true for Crusaders, and is true for Muslims, Jihadists, Terrorists who believe they are more special in the eyes of God, and mistakenly believe that God gives them a mission of superiority that allows them to hate and kill in “His” name. The whole phelps clan is a bunch of douche bags. Its so sad that im ashamed to even live in the same state as those messed up human beings. Theyre so spiteful and want everyone thats not them to go to hell. God says to do good deeds in his name. They are not doing good deeds in Gods name by picketing funerals and saying God hates everyone. I personally think that the phelps clan and anyone else in that church are the ones bound for hell.

They have all the “do’s and don’t's” right but they’ve missed the love that God has for people – all people. “They’ll know you are my disciples if you have love for one another” – Jesus’ words. “Love your neighbor as yourself” – the second greatest command according to Jesus. Where is the love??!

Sorry folks, but I was raised a Baptist and these jerks are NOT BAPTISTS by any measure that I know of. I would truly have loved for my old minister (who held a Doctorate of Divinity) to have held a public debate with old Fred. I think Fred would have left with what was left of his tail between his legs. Fred, your job is to bring The Word to the multitudes, but you don’t get believers by pissing them off. Who knows, there may be some gay folks that belive that their way of life is wrong, but insulting them will not bring them to god, and you lose points by driving them away. You definitely lose points by insulting those who are willing to risk their lives to protect your freedoms. Who knows, during my 30 years in the Army I may have had some gay comerades-in-arms, but they did “have my back”, which is more than I can say for you. As long as your “church” attacks soldiers, who are honor-bound to do what their country requires of them, you can never reach me or anyone who defends your freedoms and takes the risk of their lives that we have, and do. You do not deserve our protection, but since you live here, you get it anyway.
